Picks? Picks!

Well, the first Saturday in March cant come and go without some picks, right? We havent done a lot of picking since New Year’s Day which was mostly a disaster. An alley cat return to the game last Saturday via twitter netted a nice 2-1 day, so we’re feeling somewhat confident. Somewhat. As always, these picks may be hazardous to your wallet:

Georgetown +4 over Cincy……Cincy has really had the Hoyas number in recent meetings, but I think the line finally giving them some chalk to overcome finally reflects how this match-up is. Hoyas seem to play better on the road anyway. They’re 8-3 in their last 11 roadies, with notable wins over Memphis, Seton Hall, Syracuse and Villanova. Even without Chris Wright, I’ll take this head start.

UConn -2 over Notre Dame……A great Big East game. I’m taking the home team on the cheap number. The Irish’s hot shooting and home domination have played into the oddsmakers decision on this game as I think the line would be -4 to -6 if the Irish werent such a hot commodity. Taking a chance, that they’re a bit overrated here and the Huskies pull out a big home win to close the season.

Michigan +1 over Michigan State…..Wolverines are 9-1 ATS in their last ten games. Michigan State has fallen apart in almost every road venue they’ve played in this year. Banking on both ships sailing the same way its been the last five weeks.

Moneyline Parlay: Missouri State over Creighton/VCU over Drexel…….finally dipping into the tournaments. And, doing it the gun shy, wimpy way with moneyline parlays. I like both the Bears and Rams. And, feel free to color this pick both gutless and dumb, the latter because it’s being made with my heart. I want to see both these teams advance because they’re good enough to add a lot of March theater the rest of the way, be it just for this weekend or into the Big Dance. In the MVC, both teams have to winded after grueling games yesterday, so we’re taking the team with the best player. That’s the Bears and Kelsey Weems. In the Colonial, the Rams are the better team, but these games sometimes get tight and that -5 number just is staring out me menacingly. Rams and Bears advance even if they dont cover the spread.

Moneyline Parlay: Butler over Cleveland State/Coastal Carolina over UNC Asheville……Butler is playing too good right now. And, they’ve handled Cleveland State this year. Vikings wheezed down the stretch and I dont think they recover enough to win against the Bulldogs, who are finally peaking. In the other game, Coastal finally gets it done, a year after falling short. Are they shorthanded? Yes, but they also had an extra day off between semifinals and today’s final. I was impressed against VMI squad determined to run them off the court how Coastal found a basket every time they needed one. They opened the game with five different guys scoring their first five buckets. They’re at home. They have great inside/outside balance. And, with Chad Gray they have the best player on the court.

UW Milwaukee Pick ‘Em over Valpo……We’re fading the other Horizon contender that ran out of gas down the stretch. I respect Valpo, but they dont survive playing on the Panthers home court tonight. UWM has won nine straight Horizon games. Never mess with a streak.

UNC -1 over Duke……the game of the day. The ACC Championship outright is on the line. I have to make a play. And, it’s college basketball, so I’m taking the home team. Should be a fun one.

Maybe we’ll add more later. Who knows? But a lot of this action begins at the 2 o’clock hour, so we had to BOOM POST’ED fast and get these booked.

(oh, and all these are just single unit plays. If you’re into that thing, that is)
