Monday Ba$ketball Pick$
Posted on February 8th, 2010 by jamiemac No CommentsAfter going 11-6 over the weekend in college hoops, we’re sitting nice and pretty with a 40-31-2 record. We’ve hit some big plays along the way and playing with 8.75 units of house money. Tonight, we’re interested in some key showdowns in the college hoops world, which were also chronicled in previous posts today at the JCB. Before getting into the picks, here’s some late reading material to help you follow the action:
The Smoking Musket pleads for another 45 points out of DeSean Butler. There is also the standard Q/A the Nova Blogger Villanova Viewpoint.
A preview piece on the KU/Texas matchup from Rock Chalk Talk. Their counterparts at Burnt Orange Nation naturally also give their two cents in advance of tonight’s showdown. There is no tomorrow for Texas, according Trips Right at the Barking Carnival.
That should help set you up intellectually for tonight’s games. Now, onto tonight’s picks:
Villanova at West Virginia
Like I outlined earlier today, Villanova and the Over has been a profit machine. Combined, the Wildcats and the Over in their games is a combined 29-13 ATS. Like, whoa. I’ll take those numbers. They’re worth a risk. We’re also going with the second strategy outlined in that post as well and taking the Wildcats on the first half line and, eventually, the Mountaineers on the second half line. All will be for just a half unit. Just in case I am way off on this strategy, I dont want to rip through too much of current profit line.
Villanova +5, Half Unit
Over 150, Half Unit
Villanova +3 First Half, Half Unit
West Virgina +/- whatever the line is out. WVA -6.5. I’m on it. To win this bet, the ‘Neers need to do better than +4.5 for the game, Half Unit……dont forget WVA is 9-0-1 in second halves the last 10 games with an average margin of victory during those 20 minutes of 12.7 points. But, in five of those games, they trailed at the half. Louisville, Syracuse and Ohio State all took a halftime lead in Morgantown. Nova is better. Basically, I am hoping that the season long trends forged with these teams continues. At least one more night.
Texas +2 over Kansas, Half Unit…….I am not buying the sky is falling routine coming out of Austin. Although I will if the Horns look a step behind for 40 minutes like they have in recent outings. I think Texas plays their best game tonight. And, without realizing it, I wore my Texas Basketball T-shirt at the gym today. That’s karma speaking to me, people.
New Mexico State -1 (-125) over Louisiana Tech, 1 Unit……..The only full unit play of the day. I think home court gets the job done in this WAC showdown for first place.
Five half unit plays and one single unit play. Who needs football to feed your gambling habit? I dont. Cheers!
