$uper Bowl $unday

I suppose I should put a buck or two on this football game. I mean, it’s a pretty big game. And, its the last game. We’ve pretty much left football for college basketball several weeks back, but I dont mind a four hour fling.

I am taking New Orleans +5 points. I am pushing ahead with two units on the play. I really think the Saints are being discounted by most folks. I see this game being decided by a field goal, so the extra safety cushion I get with five from either side, I will take my chances with. I think the Saints set the pace in the game. Peyton Manning will have plenty of answers, but I’ll take the five point head start with a team that I think can easily go point for point with whatever the favorite puts up there.

The beauty of the Super Bowl is, of course, the prop bets. I dont really have any true guage on any of these, but I’m throwing a few out there. First, let me share with you what one of gambling cronies has done with his props. He was like a kid in the candy store and when the dust settled, here were all of his tickets.

Coin Toss: Tails

Coin Toss Winner: Saints

Team To Score First: Saints

First Score: Anything but a TD, 1.9 to 1

Lance Moore Receiving Yards: 11.5

Will Lance Moore Score a TD: Yes, 3.25 to 1

Saints Will Win Between 5-8 points: 8/1

First Score Of Game Will Be Saints FG: 6/1

Will There Be One Scoreless Quarter: Yes, 3.25/1

Well then thats quite a list. He also likes the Saints plus the points. He pretty much likes the Saints from coin toss to final gun. I have no idea if that makes me feel better about my own backing of the Saints, but I will be celebrating right there with him if he nabs that 8/1 pony of a NOLA win for 5-8 points.  Although I dont see that as being likely. I said before I think this is close throughout and somebody wins by a field goal. But, whatever. That’s what Super Bowl Sunday if for. Its not the day to get rich. Or double your season winnings. Or catch up back to even with the Book. Nah, its for maybe putting a little on a side and then dropping pennies on an assortment of props lines, stat bets and a future chance. It’s a bizarre of wagers, so find a few and drop what amounts to your morning cup of coffee on them. In the end, it will keep you interested if the game turns out to be a dud.

I wont join my friend on all his prop bets, but I will grab a little of Lance Moore scoring a TD and the Saints notching the first score.  The problem with Prop Bets with the Saints is you just dont know which player will end up being the meal ticket. And many of their guys like Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas are more total yard players, but the prop bets makes you decide on rushing or receiving. You never knew which part of the game those guys will see their more successful touches. Everything looks both possible and doubtful when it comes to their player props. So, we’re taking the ringleader. Drew Brees Over 24.5 completions.

On the Colts side, I think slatwarts Dallas Clark and Reggie Wayne will have big games. They weren’t used much in the AFC Championship, but I think both end up major stat factors today. I’m taking Over receiving yards for Clark at 67.7 and Wayne at 78.5. And, I am taking them each to score a TD at slighty chalky odds of -130. Consider these bets a hedge, or at least an attempt to make something, if the Colts just floor the Saints. If that happens, its because the Manning Machine isnt being stopped. These guys will be having huge nights. For that matter, I might as well pull the trigger on Over Peyton completions at 25.5

The only other left to do is take a couple stabs at who will score the first TD.  I’ll grab Dallas Clark at 6/1 and Pierre Thomas at 8/1.

So, that’s a total of 10 prop bets for a quarter each. Basically, I’ve taken more than half of yesterday’s hoop winnings and spread it out over a bunch of bets I dont typically make during the year. What could go wrong?
